Lounge Lovers + Our New Home.
Back in 2020, a month before Covid hit, our small family of 3 had well-and-truly outgrown our much-loved apartment, and with another baby on the way we knew we had to upsize our home and quickly. My husband and I had been working so hard for years to make sure we achieved this and we knew we had cut it close but weeks before she arrived so did the approval to buy our new home.
Covid arrived, and 2 weeks into Melbourne’s first lockdown so did our second child. Within days of bringing her home we were out looking at homes desperate to find something perfect for our family. With so many restrictions in place in Melbourne, I’m still amazed that we found such a great home for us.
“What’s the point of this story?” you ask. Well, our beloved apartment was a tight 2.5-bedroom home with one living space, and we were moving into a 5 bedroom with multiple living spaces… it isn’t anything flash but it is bright, simple and enough room for us to grow into… AND WE HAD NO FURNITURE TO FILL IT!
All our old furniture filled the family/kitchen area perfectly, but the entryway and main living area had no furniture in it. And it needed to be filled. It hurt my heart not having this space filled and well. It had been a long time for me living amongst cramped furniture topped with pink plastic toys and Frozen themed everything, not having a space for me, a space I could be creative, and actually be house proud again was a big deal.
As I started my search, I realised early on that Lounge Lovers had a lot of the styles that really suited my aesthetic. Now, I’ve never selected furniture online before and was a little nervous about making selections and feeling confident that my selected colours, textures etc would all work together. In the end I choose a bit of a mashup of furniture, all from Lounge Lovers to create MY new special space.
I love how easily the geometric styled modern pieces, sit so well back with the natural style raw timber. I then brought into the space a combination of sentimental pieces like my husbands old amp. from when we first played in bands together. I removed the old pendants and replaced with modern black ones. Removed the dated (albeit retro) deep red curtains for new sheers which collect the light so perfectly. Made my own shelves matching the timber of my new side tables. Gave new life to my favourite art and added my unique collection of decorative collectables.
This space has really become my special place. I could (and WHEN the kids allow, I do) sit and read for hours comfortably tucked up on my 3-seater couch. Finally having a space where we can have people over and sit talking to each other between couch and occasional chairs is a game changer. I am so happy with all my selections, and I am so eager to move onto the next room (I already have my eye on a few special pieces).
